There is so much I love about this Columbia, South Carolina wedding at the Historic Lace House that I cannot wait to share with you! But let’s rewind to where it all started first. Back in late 2016, I saw a post from Sarah Street Photography about her wedding photography giveaway. On a whim, I reached out to see if she would be interested in adding planning to the deal for the chosen couple. She said yes and after spending an incredible amount of time going through the entries, it was decided that Morgan and Sam were our lucky recipients!
This was my first real destination wedding and working with Morgan through it was a dream. She was so organized – spreadsheets on spreadsheets – and knew exactly what she wanted. One of this first details she shared with me was that she wanted to do something a little different on the tables. Instead of traditional floral centerpieces, she wanted to pay tribute to the South Carolina Palmetto Tree by using different palms in milk glass vases. They also incorporated the South Carolina vibe by handing out grits as their favors [and let me tell you, I snagged one to cook when I got home and they were the REAL DEAL]. They added personal elements by having only siblings in their wedding party, lining each fireplace with photos of them and their families, and involving multiple friends and family members in their ceremony.
The original plan was to have an open-air reception after the garden ceremony. Unfortunately there was a 100% chance of rain all day, so we had to move dining tables into the historic home. However, we still had Party Reflections set up the outdoor ceremony space and I’m pretty sure they thought I was insane when I told them to stick with plan A. As we got closer to ceremony time, it looked like there would be a short break in the rain so we made the decision to go for it! I am so glad we did because they had the beautiful, intimate, garden ceremony they wanted. It began raining again as guests were walking back to the house, but the end of the night cleared up and they were able to spend time on the patio under the string lights, just like they wanted!
Thank you, Morgan and Sam, for letting us play a small part in your wedding day. And a huge thank you to Sarah Street for letting me partner with her on the annual giveaway – it was so fun traveling to Columbia for our official first wedding together!
